STATEMENT

My work is inspired by s
paces and objects that are beautiful, elegant, and timeless.  I find significance in objects that remain relevant to a culture for many years; such things build meaning over time and often evolve in a manner that allows them to transcend cultural trends and remain timeless.   The process of an object's formal evolution is fascinating to me, and is reflected in my sculpture.  I am attempting to transform something familiar into something slightly unfamiliar, resulting in an object that engages our memory while revealing something abstract, restrained, and new from that which we already know.  Boat hulls, weaponry, primitive tools, and the human figure are some of the subjects referenced in my sculpture.  I work in series; one series morphs into the next, creating a body of work that is interconnected and constantly evolving.  The work I do in architecture has a direct relationship to my sculpture.  The fundamental objective for both is to create something elemental and beautiful that transcends time.
